The GRCA operates a
network of automatic gauges throughout the watershed to measure river and
stream flows, weather conditions and water quality. These stations provide
GRCA staff with up-to-the minute information to guide decisions about
reservoir operations to help reduce the impact of floods, as well as to
maintain minimum flows during dry weather.
These stations also provide long-term information on
water conditions which can be used by the GRCA, municipalities and other
agencies to improve the health of the Grand River watershed.
The information is updated hourly.
The GRCA is part of the Provincial Flood Warning System. A portion of the funding for this data collection network is provided by the Province of Ontario through the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Environment Canada plays a role in the Provincial Flood Warning System through the Federal-Provincial Cost Share Agreement.
Environment Canada operates a portion of the stream gauges in the data collection network, as identified with an asterisk preceding the gauge name.
A technical paper describing the GRCA Flood Management System is available for download in Adobe PDF format.
