Survey on objectives for the Grand River watershed

The survey on water objectives for the Grand River watershed closed on Dec. 2.

Read about the Water Management Plan and objectives.

This survey was intended to gather information about the water uses and values that matter to people across the Grand River watershed.

Survey responses will be considered by the partners of the Water Management Plan when deciding how to:

  • ensure a sustainable supply of water for communities and ecosystems,
  • reduce potential flood damages, and
  • improve water quality and the watershed's resilience to climate change.
Why is a Water Management Plan important?

In 1982 a Water Management Plan was created to address challenges facing the watershed at that time. Nearly all of the recommendations from that plan were implemented.

Now, an updated plan is needed. We have to look at water issues in light of 21st century challenges such as population growth and climate change. It is time to renew the commitment to action.

Setting water objectives for the Grand

People across the watershed have been asked many times what they expect from our rivers, streams and groundwater resources.

So we have pulled together all the water objectives that have been identified through public input and by municipalities and government agencies. This information will form the basis of the updated Grand River Water Management Plan. The survey gave participants a chance to tell us whether the list is complete and includes the things that matter to them.
