All GRCA nature centres remain closed to the public. Most of our public outdoor environmental community programs (including day camps, birthday parties, youth programs, Scout and Guide badge programs) remain suspended.
After careful consideration, the GRCA has made the difficult decision to not offer day camps in 2022.
COVID-19 has presented challenges for everyone in the education sector. At the GRCA, the impact of the pandemic, coupled with the recent changes to the Conservation Authorities Act, continue to have a significant and ongoing impact on our outdoor environmental education program. Consequently, we are in the process of re-evaluating our program with a goal of long-term sustainability.
At this time, we have made the decision to focus our limited resources on our school board partnerships and the delivery of the school program, as well as the ongoing program review. As part of our longer-term re-evaluation of the outdoor education program, we will consider our ability to offer day camp programs once again in the future.
For more information about the impact of COVID-19 to GRCA programs and services, please refer our COVID-19 FAQ.
In the interim, our nature centre staff have put together a fantastic list of activities for those who are missing our in-person program offerings.
We offer summer day camps, as well as March Break, Winter Break and P.D. Day camps for kids ages 6+. Each camp is action-packed and full of different activities each day. Regardless of the weather, campers spend most of the day outdoors exploring and discovering the fields and forests around the Nature Centre.
All of the camps focus on environmental discovery to connect campers with the outdoors in a fun, yet educational way.
Camps at our nature centres are all about being outdoors, discovering nature, making new friends and creating memories that will last a lifetime. For the Eco-adventure camps, there is a different theme each week designed to make the outdoors fun! Campers spend most of their day outdoors exploring the fields and forests at the nature centres. Our goal is to introduce your child to a lifetime of appreciation for nature and the outdoors.
Select camps offer Naturalist-In-Training (NIT) for teens aged 14 (or 13 entering grade 9 in September) to 16. Campers gain skills that will help with future employment. They also have an opportunity to complete their community volunteer hours during the summer.
