GRCA Flood Message #8 – Combined Flood Warning and Flood Watch

The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) is maintaining Flood Warning messages for Brant County, Brantford, Six Nations and Haldimand County and issuing a Flood Watch for the remainder of the Grand River watershed.

Weather Conditions

Warm temperatures and rainfall throughout the Grand River watershed beginning Saturday, March 7, 2026, have melted the snowpack and led to ice jams and flooding in some communities. While the risk of ice jams has passed, and river flows are receding, water levels remain very high. Temperatures dropped on Friday, March 13, and an additional 5-10 mm of mixed precipitation was received. Temperatures are forecast to climb briefly beginning on Sunday, March 15 and another 10-15 mm of rain is forecast for Monday, March 16.

Flood Watch for remainder of Grand River watershed

Due to current conditions and forecast precipitation, the GRCA is issuing a Flood Watch for the remainder of the Grand River watershed. The risk of flooding remains, and municipal flood coordinators should remain vigilant.

GRCA Reservoirs

The major reservoirs at Belwood, Conestogo, Guelph, Luther, Woolwich, Laurel, and Shade’s are being used to help reduce the impact of downstream flooding.

Stay safe

High flows and unstable ice conditions will increase the safety risk around waterbodies throughout the watershed. Banks adjacent to local waterways are very slippery and, when combined with cold, fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard. With the start of the March school break, families are advised to keep children and pets away from all water bodies. The public is encouraged to exercise extreme caution around local waterways and to stay off ice-covered waterbodies, due to unsafe conditions.

River conditions and forecasts are being monitored closely, and any additional flood messages will be issued as needed.

This message will remain in effect until 4 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026.
