GRCA to conduct dye tracer testing in Baden Creek

On February 22, 2024, the Grand River Conservation Authority will be conducting dye tracer testing in Baden Creek at the Baden Pond. The dye is environmentally friendly and may temporarily give the Baden Creek a yellow-green, pink, blue or orange colour.

The dye will dilute quickly as it moves downstream of Baden towards where Baden Creek flows into the Nith River, and the communities of Haysville, Plattsville and Ayr in the hours following the work, eventually becoming invisible. The dye is harmless to aquatic life and to individuals who may rely on Baden Creek and the Nith River for their water supply or recreational uses.

The dye tracer is being used as part of the routine maintenance of the GRCA’s water control infrastructure. The dye shows water flows over water control structures and helps GRCA staff assess the condition of these structures.
