Upcoming closure of Belwood Lake Conservation Area boat launch

The boat launch at the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA)’s Belwood Lake Conservation Area will be out of service beginning Thursday, September 25, 2025.

Prolonged dry conditions during the months of August and September have resulted in a reduction in GRCA reservoir inflows. A Level 2 low water condition declaration is in effect for parts of the Grand River watershed, and the rest of the watershed remains in a Level 1 condition. Concurrently, the Conestogo Dam rehabilitation project has increased the operational demand on Shand Dam at Belwood Lake Conservation Area, to support downstream flow augmentation.

Based on the current rate of reservoir decline, water levels are projected to reach an elevation of 417.60 m by Thursday, September 25, 2025. At this elevation, the boat launch will no longer be accessible due to insufficient water levels.

Boaters and cottagers are advised to make plans to remove boats before September 25, 2025.
