Update: Discharge of water from Shand Dam has returned to normal

The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) has increased the discharge of water from Shand Dam at Belwood Lake reservoir this afternoon to 3.5 cubic metres per second, which is within the normal operation of the dam for this time of year.

Earlier today, the rate of discharge was reduced due to an emergency request from a privately owned hydro company in Fergus. The company’s small turbine malfunctioned, and as a result, they requested a reduction of discharge from Shand Dam to reduce the flow of water entering their turbine so that emergency repairs could be undertaken.

More information about the earlier reduction to the discharge rate is available on the GRCA website.
