Trails to Wellness

Spending time in nature has a powerful impact on our mental health. Stepping outside for a walk, a hike or even a few quiet moments in fresh air gives us space to slow down, reflect and reset. Research and lived experience show that time outdoors can reduce stress, ease anxiety, lift our mood and help us feel more grounded and connected.

The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) plays an important role in making this possible by operating recreational trails throughout the watershed. Many of these trails are free to use, providing welcoming natural spaces for people of all ages and abilities to experience the benefits of being outdoors.

However, the GRCA does not have a dedicated revenue source to support trail maintenance and relies primarily on donations to keep these trails maintained and operational for everyone.

This May, during Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re raising $50,000 to support the trails and natural spaces that support our well-being.

Mental Health Benefits of Nature

Spending time outdoors can have a powerful impact on our mental well-being. Whether it’s a quiet walk or an active hike, nature gives us the space to pause, reflect and recharge, helping to reduce stress, ease anxiety and restore a sense of balance.

Free Community Trails Open for Everyone

GRCA trails provide free access to natural spaces across the watershed. These spaces remove barriers and make it easier for everyone to connect with nature. Access to nature also helps to build stewardship and appreciation for the environment.

Community Connection

Trails are more than just places to walk. They are shared spaces where people connect with family, friends and their community. These natural areas help foster a sense of belonging and remind us of the importance of caring for both our environment and each other.

Support the Campaign

This fundraiser is about more than just paths through the forest. It’s about supporting mental health, strengthening communities and fostering a deeper connection to nature.

Donate this May to help ensure these trails remain maintained, safe and welcoming to everyone.

Every contribution makes a difference.
