Water monitoring
We work with the provincial government, municipalities and others to monitor surface water and groundwater.
The information learned helps us to understand how the river and groundwater systems work as well as the pressures and threats they face. Water management agencies can use that knowledge to develop programs, policies and projects to protect and improve our water resources
Surface water levels
We operate a network of gauges which measure water levels at key locations on reservoir, rivers and large streams. This information helps us forecast and manage floods.
For more information, go to the River data page and Reservoir data page on our website.
Surface water quality
We participate in three water quality programs:
- Continuous water quality monitoring. Go to our Water quality data page page for current information.
- Provincial Water Quality Monitoring Program
- Project-specific monitoring
For more information go to the Surface water quality page.
Groundwater quality and quantity
We participate in the Provincial Groundwater Monitoring Network. This is a program administered by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks in partnership with all 36 conservation authorities.
