Research is important for supporting science-based decision making in managing the natural resources of the watershed.
We encourage research which increases knowledge of the watershed, while having minimal impact to ecological and other values and use of our property. The information and knowledge generated by research and the sharing of that research with GRCA staff can help to inform resource management decisions for the watershed.
The GRCA owns and manages approximately 19,400 hectares (48,000 acres) of land in the Grand River watershed. This represents 2.8 per cent of the watershed and includes natural areas, environmentally sensitive lands, lands for multi-purpose reservoirs and conservation areas.
We also own and operate river flow and water quality monitoring stations that researchers have used to collect samples or pilot new monitoring technology.
The GRCA may provide access to GRCA property for research. Prior to access, a signed agreement is required. Researchers are required to maintain property damage and public liability insurance coverage in an amount of not less than five million dollars ($5,000,000) and the GRCA must be named as an additional insured.
Click here to download an application to access GRCA property. Please note this document is a fillable form, and may not work with all accessibility readers. If you require this document in an alternate digital format, please contact us.
Once an application is received, a response will be provided, usually within two weeks. The access agreement needs to be signed by both parties, prior to any activities on GRCA property.
Monitoring, geospatial data, watershed management plans and other technical studies are available on the GRCA website.
